![]() ![]() Choose only the best shots for your story. Take as much footage as you can, and go through all of it when you edit. You work with the script or audio to make the images flow into one another – not necessarily in the order the footage was taken, but in the order that will tell your story in the best way. There is an art to editing the footage you have into representing a story. ![]() For instance, if you choose a starfish as a character, you’ll need more footage of starfish than of the other marine animals you encounter. For this, you will have to make sure you get all of the shots needed for your story. In addition, you might need to do some research and write a script beforehand if your video will have narration. You have to know what your story will be before you start filming. This is why it’s important to have a good story weaving your footage together to make it interesting and appealing. The story element is what draws the viewer in. The essence of a documentary video is to represent a piece of biological information in the form of a story. While Premiere Pro is more expensive, the colour tools are better for underwater video editing than Final Cut Pro’s (see tip 5). It won’t give you the same quality or features and might contain a watermark, but it’s ideal for practising your editing skills as an amateur. If you’re only starting out, there are free video editing software options on desktop and mobile. Though Premiere Pro also works best on an Apple computer, you can use it on a PC as well. ![]() Two other popular editing programs for underwater video, with GoPro or other cameras, are Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Final Cut Pro. It’s easy to use and specifically designed for GoPro footage. Choosing and editing programĪ lot of videographers are happy with GoPro Studio for editing underwater GoPro videos. All of these details make the editing process much easier. Film a scene for long enough so you have a decent amount of footage that’s not shaking or blurry. If you’re filming a fish swimming, ensure it enters and exits the frame of the shot. Get enough wide, mid as well as close-up shots of marine life. In other words, make sure you shoot in the best light possible. If you’re constantly thinking about what will work during the edit, you’ll automatically focus on getting the necessary shots. It really doesn't matter if you have any photo editing skill or not, just play around with it.While you’re filming, it’s important to keep in mind that you’ll be editing this footage later. You can add frames and other effects too, so I'd highly recommend anybody to give a go. So you don't have to be an expert you just judge the picture by eye and your own taste. The beauty of the effects is that they're applied directly to the photo so the app does the work for you, but you then get to tweak the brightness, contrast etc. At least this will help in the long run.Ī couple of my favourite effects are "Drama" and "Retrolux" but in truth they are all great. It did take me a little while to get into it, but before you start editing you do need to have a quick play around with all the different colour effects and shades etc. When I used the app everything was very simple and it also gives instructions along the way so you won't get lost on it. The screenshots made nice pictures but they lacked character and colour that you normally get from an original photo, so I wanted to edit them. The video(right) I made for Snapseed was a simple demonstatrtion of the screenshot photos I had taken from video captured on my GoPro (also the app was free!). Other attempts I'd made at editing always seemed to take too long and I never truly enjoyed the final result of my picture, but Snapseed managed to change that. I've never had much experience with other editing software, so for me this was revolutionary. They highly rated it as being a simple but effective editing tool. I first saw it used on Channel 5's Gadget Show and thought I'd try it for myself. and works really well with any photos you may have including those underwater ones. Snapseed is a photo editing app made by Nik Software, Inc. It's also a very laborious and time consuming activity unless you have previous experience with the software. ![]() Whether you're trying to add colour or clarity to the picture, you may find that a high quality photo editor is necessary for tweaking the photos in the way you want. Editing underwater photos can be tricky at times and often most people will either give up or revert back to their original photo. ![]()
